Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra

Created in 1979, Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC) is a public higher education institution and is in the Centre Coast of Portugal, in what has been known for centuries as the “city of students”. Is one of the ten largest Portuguese higher education institutions, composed by 6 Schools with about 10 000 students and 900 employees (teachers and staff). IPC offers several fields of study, from education and arts, business administration, communication and information science, tourism, agricultural sciences, to health technology and engineering. Through its schools, IPC teaches Technological Courses, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Master's degrees, being a living force of the city, with a preponderant role in the development of local region and the progress of the country. Within a highly competitive global environment, IPC faculty/researchers are constantly being asked not only to integrate national and international project teams, but also to provide services to society in general and to companies in particular ESEC also intends to: – Contribute to the development of the region and the country at a scientific, social, artistic and cultural level; – Be recognized as an Inclusive School and a reference in the implementation of good Social Responsibility practices; – Build a lasting and trusting relationship with organizations in the region and in the country, establishing partnerships that allow to value and promote the formation of ESEC through the implementation of internships, exchange of experiences and participation in joint projects.

Coimbra Education School (ESEC)

Coimbra School of Education (ESEC) is one of the six Teaching Units of IPC, and is dedicated, for more than 30 years, to the training of Early Childhood and Primary Teachers, and in the last 25 also in the training of teachers for inclusive education (several graduate courses in this area, namely a master in Special Education since 2009). ESEC's Mission is to promote high-level training adapted to the needs of modern society, aiming at successful professional performance. In this sense ESEC intends to be recognized as a welcoming School of multiple trainings – Education, Communication, Tourism, Arts and Multimedia – enabling its graduates to add value to the communities in the Region of Coimbra, and to Portuguese society in general. ESEC also intends to: – Contribute to the development of the region and the country at a scientific, social, artistic and cultural level; – Be recognized as an Inclusive School and a reference in the implementation of good Social Responsibility practices; – Build a lasting and trusting relationship with organizations in the region and in the country, establishing partnerships that allow to value and promote the formation of ESEC through the implementation of internships, exchange of experiences and participation in joint projects.

Ana Sarmento Coelho

Early Childhood Education

Professor in Education Department. Coordinator of early childhood education sector, director of the master on Preschool Education. Has a PhD in Education and a Master in Psychology. Teaches in undergraduate and graduate programmes in the area of Early Childhood Education and in the master on Special Education. Member of a research unit of the University of Coimbra (CEIS20-UC) her research work focus on curriculum development and pedagogy for the early years. Has participated in different EU projects, namely LLP IP Talented Children and Talented Teachers: Competencies, Resilience & Culture ; KA2 Project Inclusive Education in Early Childhood: Developing Good Practices.

 

 

 

 

 

Joana Chelinho

Early Childhood Education

Professor Assistant in Education Department. PhD in Education – Assessment and Pedagogical Supervision. Teaches in undergraduate and graduate programmes in Childhood Education. Has experience in blended learning activities, including the design, management and monitoring of learning management systems. Her research interests focus on pedagogy, curriculum development and assessment in Early Childhood Education, teacher training and pedagogical supervision specially supported in digital technologies.
 

Maria Madalena Baptista

Early Childhood Education

Professor in Education Department. PhD in Education, expert in special education. Teaches in undergraduate and graduate programmes in the areas of Childhood Education, Portuguese Sign Language and Inclusive Education. Has experience in the design, evaluation and coordination of national, european and international funded projects, such as the e Inovar Project (aimed to improve the language skills and methods of study of students in higher education, whose mother tongue was not Portuguese, using the system of b-learning) and an international project in Mozambique, for in-service and pre-service education of teachers in the area of Inclusive Education (Network Trainers for the Success of School Inclusion).

Vera Vale

Early Childhood Education

Professor Assistant in Education Department. Has a PhD in Educational Psychology and a Master in Education. Teaches in undergraduate and graduate programmes in the area of ECE. Member of a research unit of the University of Coimbra (CEIS20-UC) her research interests focus specially on socioemotional development. She has also a degree in preschool education and has worked in the Office of Child Support with children at risk (eg poverty, migration, neglect) and several years in the area of inclusive education of children with special needs. She has participated in different EU projects, namely LLP IP Talented Children and Talented Teachers: Competencies, Resilience & Culture ; KA2 Project Inclusive Education in Early Childhood: Developing Good Practices
