Karen Hudson

Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing

Karen is a Senior Lecturer and Head of subject for Education, Children and Young People based in the Department of Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing. I am an early years specialist having been a Foundation Stage Teacher, Leader and Nursery Head Teacher. My work is rooted in the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage, which values respect, equality of opportunity and inclusion for all children.   Northumbria pre-service teacher education embraces these principles with a rights respecting ethos and prepares them to work within diverse communities. One of the most exciting aspects of my role is involvement in Erasmus projects, I have supported students on a range of international experiences through Erasmus and self-funded opportunities over the past decade. Through this, I have a research interest in the development and benefits of international competencies in pre-service teachers as well as European perspectives on early years pedagogy. I live on the Northumberland coast with my husband, two grown-up children and our dog, Gracie.
